Good news for SUV lovers! Mahindra just made the Scorpio-N with an automatic transmission way more affordable. If you’ve been eyeing this rugged beast but didn’t want to shell out big bucks for the higher trims, the new update might just be your ticket.
Automatic Now Available in Lower Trim
Previously, if you wanted an automatic Scorpio-N, you had to step up to at least the Z6 (diesel) or Z8 Select (petrol) trims, which started around ₹18.91 lakh and ₹19.06 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. But now, Mahindra’s offering the 6-speed torque converter automatic with the Z4 trim—the one just above the base model.
Here’s the new pricing:
- Z4 Petrol AT: ₹17.39 lakh
- Z4 Diesel AT: ₹17.86 lakh
That’s a savings of ₹1.05 lakh to ₹1.67 lakh compared to the earlier automatic options. Not bad, right?

What Does the Z4 Trim Offer?
Even though it’s a more budget-friendly option, the Z4 isn’t stripped down. You still get:
- 8-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- Steering-mounted controls
- Second-row AC vents (because nobody likes sweaty passengers)
- Halogen headlights & LED turn indicators
- 17-inch wheels (with plastic covers, but hey, they do the job)
- Safety essentials: Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold/descent control, and 3-point seatbelts for all
It’s not as flashy as the higher trims (no fancy LED lights or leatherette seats here), but it covers all the basics without feeling cheap.

Engine Options: Petrol or Diesel?
The Z4 comes with two engine choices:
- 2.0L Turbo Petrol: 200 HP & 380 Nm torque (peppy!)
- 2.2L Diesel: 130 HP & 300 Nm torque (more fuel-efficient)
If you’re an off-road enthusiast, there’s also a Z4(E) diesel 4×4 version with 173 HP & 370 Nm—perfect for those weekend adventures.
Why This Matters
Automatic SUVs are in high demand, especially in cities where stop-and-go traffic makes manuals a pain. By offering an auto in the Z4 trim, Mahindra’s making the Scorpio-N more accessible without forcing buyers to upgrade to pricier variants.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been holding off on buying a Scorpio-N because the automatic versions were too expensive, this might be your moment. The Z4 AT gives you the convenience of an auto ‘box at a much friendlier price. Now, the real question: Petrol or diesel?
