In another blow to household budgets, Mother Dairy has increased milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre, effective Wednesday, April 30. Whether you’re picking up full cream, toned, or cow milk, you’re going to notice the change at checkout.
What’s Changing?
From your daily chai to breakfast cereal, the milk you rely on just got a little more expensive. This is the second time in less than a year that Mother Dairy has upped prices — the last one being in June 2024. This time, the company blames soaring procurement costs, which have shot up by ₹4-5 per litre.
Here’s a quick look at the new Mother Dairy milk prices:
| Milk Variant | Old Price | New Price |
|---|---|---|
| Toned milk (bull vended) | ₹54/litre | ₹56/litre |
| Full cream milk (pouch) | ₹68/litre | ₹69/litre |
| Toned milk (pouch) | ₹56/litre | ₹57/litre |
| Double toned milk | ₹49/litre | ₹51/litre |
| Cow milk | ₹57/litre | ₹59/litre |
Why the Price Hike?
Mother Dairy says it’s not trying to squeeze customers — it’s just trying to stay afloat. According to the company, the early onset of summer and intense heatwave conditions have impacted milk production, pushing up the cost of sourcing milk from farmers.
“This price revision has been necessitated to address the significant increase in procurement costs, which have gone up by ₹4-5 per litre over the past few months,” a company spokesperson explained.
So while you’re paying a bit more, it’s still only a partial pass-through of what Mother Dairy’s actually shelling out to procure milk.
It’s About Balancing Both Sides
Mother Dairy supplies around 35 lakh litres of milk daily in the Delhi-NCR region — through their booths, retail stores, and even online platforms. And while nobody loves price hikes, the company insists this move is about keeping things fair for both farmers and consumers.
“We remain committed to ensuring the consistent availability of quality milk to consumers while supporting the livelihoods of our farmers,” the official added.
