Apple’s OLED makeover is coming
Apple seems ready to take another big leap in display tech. According to a Bloomberg report, the Cupertino-based company is planning to roll out OLED panels across its iPad and MacBook range — starting with the iPad Mini and later expanding to MacBook Air models.
If you’ve used an iPhone with an OLED screen, you already know how much richer and more vibrant the colors look compared to traditional LCD panels. Now, Apple wants to bring that same magic to its iPads and laptops.

iPad Mini to lead the OLED transition
The first device to make the jump will reportedly be the iPad Mini, expected to launch in 2026. The upgrade, however, may come with a small price bump — around $100 (roughly ₹8,800) higher than the current model.
Interestingly, Apple is said to be testing a new water-resistant casing for the Mini, along with a vibration-based speaker system. That means it could be tougher and sound better than before — basically, an iPhone-like durability boost in tablet form.
iPad Air next in line
The iPad Air won’t be left behind for long. While the next-gen M5 iPad Air launching in 2026 will still use an LCD screen, the OLED version is likely coming in 2027.
Apple’s higher-end iPad Pro already features OLED panels, so this shift will finally bring mid-range iPads closer to that premium display experience.
For the base iPad, though, Apple seems in no rush — it will stick with LCD for the foreseeable future. And yes, that much-rumored foldable iPad is still on the roadmap, but reportedly pushed back to 2029.
MacBook Pro and Air will follow later
Moving to laptops, the MacBook Pro is expected to be the first to get the OLED treatment — possibly paired with the upcoming M6 chip and even a touchscreen display, according to early leaks. That launch could happen by late 2026.
As for the MacBook Air, the OLED makeover is a bit further out — likely around 2028. Until then, the 2026 refresh will keep the familiar LCD display but may bring performance improvements and thinner bezels.

What this means for users
Once OLED arrives across Apple’s product line, users can expect deeper blacks, better contrast, and more power efficiency — perfect for streaming, design, or just everyday work.
Sure, the price tags might inch up, but the overall experience is going to feel a lot more premium. In short, Apple’s future screens won’t just look good — they’ll feel better to use.
