Mumbai Police arrested 51-year-old astrologer Ashwini Kumar from Noida for allegedly sending a WhatsApp bomb threat that triggered a city-wide security alert.
A Bomb Threat That Rocked Mumbai
Mumbai woke up to panic when police control rooms received a chilling WhatsApp message claiming that 34 vehicles in the city were loaded with “human bombs” and that 14 Pakistani terrorists had entered India with 400 kg of RDX.
The threat came from a group calling itself “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” and it specifically warned of attacks on Hindus. Naturally, this sent the police into overdrive. Security was immediately tightened across Mumbai and Maharashtra, with every lead chased down.

The Arrest in Noida
It didn’t take long for investigators to trace the origin of the message. The sender turned out to be Ashwini Kumar, a 51-year-old astrologer and vastu consultant living in Sector 79, Noida.
Mumbai Police swooped in and arrested him from his residence, where he lived with his retired father, Suresh Kumar, and his mother, Prabhawati. During the raid, cops seized seven mobile phones, three SIM cards, multiple memory cards, and other electronic devices.
Who Exactly Is Ashwini Kumar?
Ashwini Kumar is originally from Patliputra, Patna, Bihar. Despite being well-educated with a postgraduate degree, his personal and financial life seems messy.
He has been estranged from his wife, Archana, and has faced multiple financial disputes over the years. In fact, in 2023 he even spent three months in jail after an acquaintance named Firoz from Bihar filed a police complaint against him at the Phulwari Sharif station.
This time, police say he tried to frame the same Firoz by sending the threatening WhatsApp message under his name.
What the Police Found
The case has been registered as Crime No. 381/25 under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (196(1)(a)(b), 351(2), 351(3), 351(4)).
Investigators believe Kumar orchestrated the entire scare to settle personal scores. But his reckless stunt sparked chaos in Mumbai, wasting police resources and terrifying citizens.

Not the First Hoax
This isn’t an isolated case. Just days before, another man was taken into custody for falsely claiming that Kalwa railway station in Thane district would be blown up.
Police say these repeated hoaxes stretch resources thin and create unnecessary panic. Still, Mumbai Police insists they will treat every threat seriously, keeping the city on high alert.
Bottom line: A city of over 20 million can’t afford to take chances. While Ashwini Kumar’s “prediction” turned out to be a hoax, it left behind real fear and raised questions about how far some people will go to settle old grudges.
