On Friday, Olympic gold champion Neeraj Chopra advanced to the World Athletics Championships finals with a javelin throw of 88.77m. Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 after securing a spot in the finals. Neeraj Chopra delivered the season’s best performance and the fourth-best of his career.
Neeraj Chopra’s incredible throw also secured him a straight spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where a minimum distance of 85.50m is required for qualification. However, completing the Olympic entrance requirements is only one element of the selection process; the final decision on whether an athlete will be selected for the NOC squad for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games lies with the National Olympic Committee.
Apart from Neeraj Chopra, only Julian Webber of Germany (82.39m) threw the javelin above 80 meters in the first round.
Last year, Neeraj Chopra finished second in the World Athletics Championships, following Anderson Peters, who had a terrible performance in the qualifying A round this year, throwing 78.49m after three tries.
India’s other rising star in the Javelin Throw, DP Manu, finished third with a best throw of 81.31 meters, following only Julian Webber. DP Manu also has a good chance of making the World Athletics Championships finals if nine other competitors throw better than him in qualification B.
Strong in the face of atmospheric circumstances
All other athletes suffered from climatic circumstances characterized by thick air and opposing crosswinds, which limited their throw. These circumstances made it difficult to achieve long javelin lengths.
This year, Neeraj Chopra is gunning for gold, and with a terrific track record, he has a good chance of succeeding. He holds gold medals from the Asian and Commonwealth Games, in addition to his stunning achievements as a Diamond League champion and a glittering gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
