According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale shook Rajasthan’s capital city of Jaipur.
The earthquake struck at 4.09 a.m. on July 21, 2023, around 9 kilometres from Jaipur and at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the report.
This was followed by a 3.1 magnitude aftershock at 4.22 a.m., according to the NCS.
In a tweet, Murari Lal Meena, Rajasthan’s minister for tourism and civil aviation, stated, “Earthquake in Jaipur. “I hope you’re all safe!”
In response to the earthquakes, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje tweeted, “Earthquake tremors have been felt in other parts of the state, including Jaipur.” “I hope you’re all safe!”
Jahnvi Sharma, another resident, posted a video of the earthquake. “What a terrifying day to witness such a high-magnitude earthquake in Jaipur,” she remarked.
Rameshwar Singh shared a video of the Jaipur earthquake captured by a CCTV camera. He described it as “seeing dogs on the street in deep sleep suddenly waking up.”
Meanwhile, a Twitter user made light of the situation, writing, “Jaipur celebrating Oppenheimer’s success in India too soon.”
