Mhatardi to Become a Multimodal Transport Hub
In a big step toward improving travel across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked officials to connect the upcoming Mhatardi bullet train station in Thane with nearby railway and metro networks.
The directive came during a review meeting held at the MSRDC office, where Shinde emphasized the need for smooth last-mile connectivity to the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor.
Officials from MahaRail and the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) were present at the meeting, along with Shinde’s Principal Secretary Naveen Sona.
Linking Mhatardi with Thane, Kopar & Taloja
The Mhatardi station, being developed near Diva, is expected to become one of the most important junctions on the bullet train route. To maximize its utility, Shinde has proposed linking it with Thane railway station, Kopar railway station, and the Taloja Metro line.
“This integration will make Mhatardi a true multimodal hub, ensuring fast and seamless connectivity for commuters across the MMR,” Shinde said, according to officials who attended the meeting.
Sources added that the NHSRCL has responded positively to the proposal and will soon forward it to the Ministry of Railways for further approval.

Faster, Smoother Commutes Ahead
Once operational, the connectivity plan is expected to reduce travel time significantly between Thane, Kopar, and Navi Mumbai’s Taloja areas. It will also ease congestion on existing suburban railway routes by distributing passenger traffic more evenly.
MahaRail presented a conceptual plan showing how Mhatardi could be linked with the nearby stations through dedicated access roads, skywalks, or shuttle services. The plan also highlights a vision to integrate bus terminals and highway links, turning the station into a complete urban transit hub.

A Boost for Thane’s Growth Corridor
Urban planners believe the move could transform Thane’s transport ecosystem, attracting new residential and commercial development around Diva and Mhatardi. The integration could also serve as a model for future bullet train hubs across India, blending high-speed rail with local mobility networks.
With the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project already progressing in full swing, Mhatardi’s transformation into an integrated hub signals Maharashtra’s push toward faster, smarter urban travel.
